With November being the month we celebrate Thanksgiving, we wanted to continue with this concept. Part One of our blog discussed being thankful or having gratitude. Part Two of this blog will be discussing Giving Opportunities.

Giving is synonymous with the story of Steven A. Hunter. Steven was a young man that once lived in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was known for his desire to help others, especially those who were in great need. His time here on earth was cut far too short, however, his legacy lives on, thanks to his parents Mark and Virgie Hunter. They wanted the mission their son believed in to live on and created the Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund.

1 out of 4 children in public schools throughout Scioto, Adams, and Pike County (Ohio) are facing food insecurity.

The Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund provides meal packs, called Power Packs, to Scioto, Adams, and Pike counties in various locations in public schools including classrooms and pantries, where children may have access to them independently.

About Power Packs

Research shows that hungry children are more likely to be absent from school, lack focus, and energy, and be vulnerable to illness.

Each week during the school year, students who are enrolled in Steven’s Power Pack Club receive packs of food, known as Power Packs, to ensure they have something to eat on weekends.

Each Power Pack contains over a dozen food items, which are shelf-stable and kid-friendly. The items are high in protein, fiber, and iron, and include organic and minimally processed items for improved diversity and nutritional value. A few examples of what you might find in a Power Pack include: whole grain cereals, fruit and vegetable juices, sunflower seeds, oatmeal bars, complete pasta meals, and other healthy options.
